The ECHS robotics program will be limited to students who are regularly enrolled at ECHS in the Traditional and Flex Learning options (including ILP) in grades 9-12. ECHS will have one varsity after-school competition robotics team that will participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) program. The competition season for the FRC robotics team will be January through April. The competition team will be selected from a pool of candidates who have successfully completed their fall semester robotics courses and who are recommended for the competition team by their instructor.

Apprentice, Technician, and Specialist Cohorts

Students who have participated on a FTC team for one year or less, or who are new to robotics, will be placed in the Apprentice cohort and will be enrolled in the Introduction to Robotics course in the fall semester. The Apprentice cohort will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall semester, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, in the robotics room located in I-101.

Students who have participated on an FTC team for at least two years, and/or students who have participated on an FRC team for at least one year, will be placed in the Technician cohort and will be enrolled in the Intermediate Robotics course in the fall semester. The Technician cohort will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays in the fall semester, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, in the robotics room located in I-101.

Students who have participated on an FRC team for at least two years, will be placed in the Specialist cohort and will be enrolled in the Advanced Robotics course in the fall semester. The Specialist cohort will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays in the fall semester, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, in the robotics room located in I-101.

Students will receive five (5) semester credits upon successful completion of the fall semester course. Students who successfully complete their fall semester course with a “B” or better, and are recommended by their instructor, will be placed on the competition FRC team and will be enrolled in the second half of the robotics course they completed in the fall. Students will receive five (5) semester credits upon successful completion of the spring semester course.

The robotics courses at ECHS will start on Tuesday, September 4th (the day after Labor Day). We will follow up with more information on how the enroll your student(s) in the ECHS robotics program in the coming weeks.
